Our Pastor
Pastor David Birsching grew up in Sebewaing, Michigan. His wife, Sheryl, also spent the first months of her life in Sebewaing before her parents moved to Benton Harbor, Michigan. The two of them have known each other all their lives, started dating in college, and were married in the summer of 1988.
In the spring of 1990, Pastor Birsching began his ministry at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tacoma, Washington. He remained at that congregation for 33 years until coming to mid-Michigan in the summer of 2023 to serve St. John Lutheran Church (Clare) and Faith Lutheran Church (Harrison).
He loves the outdoors … hiking, fishing, hunting … so he feels right at home in the area. He is enjoying cheering again for the Michigan sports teams he grew up rooting for. He also loves sharing God’s Word through preaching, teaching and talking, and he loves serving God’s people in whatever way he can.
David and Sheryl are blessed with six children … 5 boys and 1 girl. They are all adults now, and living for the Lord in different parts of the country.
During the pandemic, Pastor B. began a weekly blog to try to encourage his congregation and other Christians in their walk with the Lord. He has continued sharing weekly posts on it ever since. If interested in checking it out, the website is called “Heading to Heaven” (headingtoheaven.com). Any who choose to subscribe will get the weekly articles delivered to their email. (It’s totally free!)
David is honored to be the pastor of Faith and St. John, and prays that he will be a blessing to both congregations and both communities.
